Welcome to the Web version of SlideCat, the University Library's on-line public access slide catalog.

What is SlideCat:

As a University resource, SlideCat has been developed to meet our mission of providing visual material in support of University teaching and research. SlideCat provides a textual description of the images represented in the Visual Resource Collection, an interdisciplinary collection used by UCSC faculty and students for instructional purposes. As an evolving resource, SlideCat is constantly being expanded, and records are edited for comprehensiveness and accuracy using standard and consistent terminology whenever possible.

How to use the Web version of SlideCat:

There are three ways to locate slide information. The database can be simply searched by keywords, browsed by category, or users may build a search to find a specific slide or collection of slides using a search form.

A keyword search will retrieve all slide records which contain that exact word or words.

Browsing by category will lead you through a series of pages, each more detailed than the previous. If the results of browsing are too broad, you may initiate a keyword or form search to narrow the selection of slides by clicking the appropriate link at the top of every page.

Our search form allows you to search for a slide or collection of slides by artist, subject, title, broad media, chronological period, country or site location, holding museum or institution, or any combination of these fields.

Who can use slides:

For faculty or student users affiliated with UCSC, search results may be recorded on a submit form and emailed to us for later slide retrieval. For general information on circulation procedures please visit the Visual Resource Collection's Web page.
